Who's Online : 0During May 2021 the European Consortium for Mathematics in Industry invited teams of students of Bachelor, Master or PhD levels in an ECMI member institution to the ECMI 2021 Student Competition.
The teams were asked to produce a mathematical model fitting the data of the evolution of COVID-19 epidemics in United Kingdom and Israel (that is the first two countries which vaccinated a significant percentage of their population). The model had to be able to investigate the effect of different policy measures to prevent the diffusion of the epidemics, including the vaccination campaign.
ECMI announced that the jury decided to award the prize ex-aequo to the teams:
• Inetfomm (members: Arkady Wey, Blas Kolic, University of Oxford)
• Math Disk (members: Filipa Valdeira, Università degli Studi di Milano; Greta Malaspina, University of Novi Sad; Stevo Racković, Universidade de Lisboa – BIGMATH students)
The opinion of the jury is that these two teams used mathematically sound techniques to explain the observed phenomena, provided forecasts based on real data and they positively distinguished from other received submissions.
