Short course on Scientific Data Management

November 5 2020

This course is offered to all the ESRs by experts of the Big Data
research unit established at SDG Group. The ESRs are trained on the methods and architectures to store, label, and organize databases and data warehouses of scientific data, stressing that different types of data require different organizing structures (classical, cloud, hadoop, object storage, etc.) to be easily accessible for subsequent analyses.

The short course aims to provide the basics of data management principles and practicalities in the scientific environment.
It will highlight data life cycle, logical and physical aspects of data management, data management planning and some examples of existing data repositories for data sharing.

The course is envisaged to enhance the consciousness about the value of the data, provide pointers to deep dive the subject, promote a role usually not present, that of Scientific Data Officer.
